During the classroom phase of training the students will spend time preparing for their permit and final tests (using the Texas Drivers Handbook), as well as preparing for the in-car phase of training. It is important to the staff of Street Smart Driving School to allow the students a chance to fully grasp the knowledge taught in the classroom so they will be provided with a safe learning experience in phase two.
Our staff has incorporated lesson with the use of textbooks, lectures, videos, quizzes, and other teaching equipment in order to ensure our students are comprehending the course information. The modules covered during this class include Traffic Laws, Driver Preparation, Vehicle Movements, Driver Readiness, Risk Reduction (Management), Environmental Factors, Distractions, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Adverse Conditions, Vehicle Requirements, and Consumer and Driver Responsibility. An in-depth explanation of course work can be found on the Texas Education Agency website under the Program of Organized Instruction tab of the Driver Training and Education page.
*Although a student may begin the classroom phase of training at the age of 14, the student must be 15 years of age or older when the behind-the-wheel instruction begins.
